042 Rising: Why Enugu Is Emerging as the Home of South-East Concerts

Something is happening in 042.
From headline concerts by some of the South-East’s fastest-rising artists to major music events attracting fans from across the region, Enugu is increasingly becoming the city where the South-East comes to experience live music.
And the 2026 concert calendar is making that argument even louder.
Zyno kicks off the run
On September 20, Zyno TopBoy is scheduled to bring the TopBoy Concert 2026 to Amadeo Event Center in Enugu.
The event has been promoted as a major Zyno headline show, with other performers, including Evado, associated with the concert.
It is another major music event heading to 042 — but Zyno is far from alone.
Aguero Banks keeps the momentum going
On November 29, Aguero Banks is scheduled to bring the second edition of his Hero Concert to Michael Okpara Square in Enugu.
The show adds another major South-East artist to Enugu’s growing 2026 concert calendar.
And then, just days later, another name takes over.
Evado’s Promise Land
Evado is scheduled to hold his Promise Land Concert on December 6, 2026, at Michael Okpara Square, Enugu.
That means within a matter of weeks, 042 is set to host headline shows from multiple major names in the region’s new-school music movement.
But perhaps the biggest evidence that Enugu’s concert culture is not a new development comes from an artist who has repeatedly returned to the city.
JeriQ has already done it — more than once
Before talking about a possible 2026 JeriQ concert, it is important to look at what has already happened.
In December 2023, JeriQ held his JeriQ Hood Concert at Okpara Square, Enugu. Reports put attendance at about 15,000 people.
Then in December 2024, he returned to Enugu for another JeriQ Hood concert, this time at Nnamdi Azikiwe Stadium. The concert was reported as a major sold-out event, with reports putting attendance at more than 20,000.
That’s two consecutive years of major JeriQ concerts in Enugu.
And there is now talk of another one.
JeriQ Hood 2026?
A December 20, 2026 date has been circulated for another JeriQ Hood concert in Enugu.
However, the 2026 date should not yet be treated as officially confirmed. Some online posts point to December 20, 2026, but available reporting also notes that an official announcement had not been made.
So for now:
December 20, 2026 — JeriQ Hood, Enugu: UNCONFIRMED/REPORTED.
If JeriQ officially confirms it, it would potentially mark another major Enugu concert following his 2023 and 2024 shows.
And that history matters.
It shows that major concerts in 042 are not simply one-off events.
Artists are coming back.
Phyno and the established 042 connection
The city’s concert appeal also extends beyond emerging artists.
In April 2026, Phyno’s Phyno Experience brought a major music show to the International Conference Centre in Enugu, featuring a lineup that included major Nigerian and South-East acts.
Phyno himself has deep roots in Enugu’s music culture, and the event further demonstrated the city’s ability to host large-scale concerts.
The message is becoming clear: Enugu isn’t only producing artists.
It is becoming a destination for them to perform.
Why 042?
Part of the answer is the city’s relationship with music.
Enugu has long been connected with Igbo music, hip-hop and popular culture. Artists from and around the region have built strong fan bases here, while audiences from neighbouring states can travel into the city for major events.
That gives promoters something valuable:
a regional audience.
A big concert in Enugu isn’t necessarily targeting Enugu residents alone.
Fans can come from Nsukka, Abakaliki, Awka, Onitsha, Owerri and other parts of the South-East.
That makes 042 more than a city on the concert map.
It makes it a regional entertainment destination.
The 042 concert pattern
Look at the emerging pattern:
2023: JeriQ held his JeriQ Hood Concert at Okpara Square.
2024: JeriQ returned to Enugu for another major JeriQ Hood concert at Nnamdi Azikiwe Stadium.
2026: Zyno is scheduled for the TopBoy Concert, Aguero Banks for Hero Concert 2.0 and Evado for Promise Land.
And potentially, if officially confirmed, JeriQ could return again in December.
That’s not proof that Enugu is officially the entertainment capital of the South-East.
But it is strong evidence of something happening.
The concentration of major concerts is becoming hard to ignore.
More than music
The concert boom also creates opportunities beyond the artists.
Hotels, restaurants, transport operators, DJs, photographers, content creators, fashion vendors, event centres, security companies and other businesses benefit when thousands of people move into the city for entertainment.
A major concert therefore becomes more than a night of music.
It becomes an economic activity.
And if the current trend continues, Enugu could be entering a new phase — one where its entertainment identity becomes as important as its reputation as a political, educational and commercial centre.
So, is 042 now the home of South-East concerts?
The answer is still up for debate.
But the evidence is becoming increasingly compelling.
From JeriQ’s repeated major concerts in the city to the growing 2026 calendar featuring Zyno, Aguero Banks and Evado, Enugu is showing that it can attract both established stars and the region’s new generation of artists.
And if the reported JeriQ December 2026 concert eventually receives official confirmation, it would add another chapter to a concert relationship that has already played out in Enugu in 2023 and 2024.
The South-East has plenty of cities with vibrant entertainment scenes.
But right now, 042 is making one of the loudest claims for the title.
When the South-East wants to bring the show home, 042 is calling.
