Mbah Ends Daily Ticket Charges for Enugu Keke Riders, Extends Work Hours to 10pm

Enugu State Governor Peter Mbah has announced the removal of ticket fees for commercial tricycle operators across the state and extended their permitted operating hours to 10 p.m.

The governor made the announcement on Saturday, October 17, 2026, during an event at Okpara Square in Enugu.

The decision is expected to provide relief for commercial tricycle operators who pay daily or periodic levies while allowing them to continue transporting passengers later into the evening.

Under the new arrangement, keke operators will be able to operate until 10 p.m., extending their service beyond the earlier closing period.

The removal of ticket fees could also reduce some of the operating costs faced by riders, many of whom depend on daily earnings to support their families and maintain their vehicles.

For commuters, the extension could improve access to transportation in the evening, particularly for workers, students and residents returning home after regular business hours.

However, the practical impact of the policy will depend on its implementation across the state and how the relevant transport authorities communicate and enforce the new rules.

The announcement marks a significant development for Enugu’s commercial tricycle sector, with operators and passengers likely to watch closely as the new measures take effect.
