Tinubu Departs Paris for Nigeria After Working Vacation

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has departed Paris, France, and is returning to Nigeria after concluding his extended working vacation in Europe.
President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has departed Paris, France, for Nigeria after concluding his working vacation in Europe, the Presidency confirmed on Tuesday, September 29, 2026.
According to a statement from the State House, the President’s aircraft is expected to arrive at the Murtala Muhammed Airport in Lagos later today.
Tinubu’s return comes after several weeks in Europe, where his stay included official engagements and meetings with political and business figures.
President Heads to Lagos First
The Presidency said President Tinubu chose to return through Lagos before proceeding to Abuja.
The State House said the President is expected to honour the memory of the late Chief Moshood Kashimawo Olawale Abiola, popularly known as MKO Abiola, whom it described as a martyr of Nigeria’s democratic struggle.
Tinubu departed Nigeria on August 30 for London to begin his working vacation before proceeding to Paris, France.
During his time in France, the President held a number of engagements, including meetings connected to investment, business and Nigeria-France relations.
Meetings and Investment Discussions
Among the President’s recent engagements was a meeting with French businessman Vincent Bolloré in Paris. The State House said discussions focused on expanding investment in Nigeria’s creative and digital economy.
The President also met with French President Emmanuel Macron during his stay in France.
On September 24, the Presidency announced that Ogun State Government and DP World had signed memoranda of understanding relating to the proposed Gateway Deep Seaport and Blue Marine Special Economic Zone.
These engagements formed part of the broader investment and economic discussions taking place during Tinubu’s stay in France.
Return Comes Amid Political Debate
The President’s extended stay in Europe had also generated political and legal debate in Nigeria.
The African Action Congress filed a suit at the Federal High Court in Abuja challenging Tinubu’s extended absence from the country and alleging that he failed to comply with constitutional requirements concerning notification to the National Assembly.
The suit names President Tinubu, the Attorney-General of the Federation, the Senate President, the Speaker of the House of Representatives and the National Assembly as defendants.
The allegations contained in the suit remain matters for the court to determine. A House of Representatives member, Wale Ahmed, has meanwhile defended the President’s absence, arguing that Tinubu continued to perform official responsibilities while abroad.
What Happens Next
With President Tinubu now on his way back to Nigeria, attention will shift to his schedule following his arrival in Lagos and subsequent return to Abuja.
The President is also expected to participate in activities surrounding Nigeria’s October 1 Independence anniversary.
The State House said further details of the President’s programme would follow as he resumes his engagements in the country.
