Oil Prices Surge Above $106 as Saudi Pipeline Disruption Raises Global Supply Fears

Global oil prices rose sharply on Tuesday, September 15, 2026, following attacks on Saudi Arabian energy infrastructure that disrupted the kingdom’s vital East-West oil pipeline.

According to Reuters, Brent crude increased by $1.24 to $106.93 per barrel, while US West Texas Intermediate (WTI) rose by $1.29 to $102.65 per barrel.

The disruption has raised concerns about the security of global oil supplies, particularly as tensions continue to escalate across the Middle East.

The East-West pipeline is an important part of Saudi Arabia’s oil-export infrastructure. It allows the kingdom to transport crude oil to the Red Sea port of Yanbu, providing an alternative route when shipments through the Strait of Hormuz face difficulties.

The pipeline can typically transport around four million barrels of oil per day, equivalent to approximately four per cent of global oil supply.

The latest attacks have increased concerns that a prolonged disruption could put further pressure on international crude prices. Analysts are monitoring developments closely as markets assess the possible impact on oil production, transportation, and energy supplies.

The situation has also added to uncertainty in global markets, with Gulf countries facing heightened security concerns and diplomatic efforts reportedly encountering difficulties.

For oil-producing countries such as Nigeria, developments in the international crude market remain important because changes in oil prices can affect government revenue, foreign exchange earnings, and broader economic conditions.

However, the extent of the impact on Nigeria and other oil-consuming countries will depend on how long the disruption lasts and whether alternative supply routes remain available.

Global markets are expected to continue monitoring the situation as concerns over energy security and regional tensions persist.
